长期从事微生物遗传改造及代谢工程研究。主要以重要天然化合物生物合成为研究方向,通过底盘细胞改造、生物合成途径创建及代谢调控等实现天然产物的高效生物合成,实现了天麻素、红景天苷、水杨苷及乙酸苄酯等天然产物的微生物合成。
